Plain-language terms for the embroidery files on this site: what you may stitch, what we are not able to grant, and how to reach us if a design is yours.

What you may do
- Download any design free of charge โ no account, no email, no attribution required.
- Stitch it for yourself, for your household, and as gifts for people you know.
- Convert the file to whatever format your machine reads, and resize or adjust density to suit your fabric.
- Post photos of your finished stitch-out wherever you like. A link back to the design page is welcome but never required.
What you may not do
- Redistribute the files themselves โ no re-uploading, mirroring or bundling. Link to the design page instead.
- Sell or license the files, or fold them into a paid collection, subscription or membership.
- Sell finished items made from these designs. See the note on commercial use below.
- Claim you digitized a design, or attach your own copyright notice to it.
Where these files come from
Stitchopia is a library, not a digitizing studio. The embroidery files here come from collections that circulate freely within the embroidery trade. For most of them we cannot identify or verify the original digitizer.
So we do not claim to own these designs, and we will not pretend to grant rights we do not hold. That is the entire reason the permissions above stop at personal stitching.
Every batch is reviewed by eye before it goes live, and we hold back anything carrying a recognisable character, sports team, brand mark or copyright notice. That screening catches the obvious cases. It cannot prove that every remaining file is clear of third-party rights, and we will not claim otherwise.
About commercial use
If a design is yours
Then it should not be here, and we want to hear from you. We would far rather take a design down than argue about it.
Please send us:
- The page address of the design on this site.
- Anything that shows the work is yours โ an original file, a shop or portfolio listing, a dated post.
- Which of the two outcomes below you want.
Remove it
The default. We take the design and its files down without argument, and add it to a block list so it cannot reappear in a later import.
Keep it, with credit
If you would rather it stayed up, we will name you as the digitizer on the design page and link to your site or shop. Your call, not ours.
We aim to act within 5 business days of a complete report.
